Part I - The Beginning



Hello! I am excited to introduce "The Millennial Warrior," my project/entry for MVMXX.

I have participated in a few MVM game jams in the past. While I have worked with some great teams, I decided to undertake this jam solo. I wanted to have an outlet to practice all elements of game dev, and be able to hone my creative process.

This project will be developed in Godot 4.x, using original pixel art I create using Aseprite.

My goals are to leverage my experience to create a jam entry that features lush level designs, unique challenges in each area, and semi-polished pixel art goodness.

I am also debating which of the jam's theme options to integrate into my game/level design. I am leaning towards "out of time," but we'll see how I feel as I get started developing.

Start with the Art


So far, I have begun with some initial sprites and artwork. I wanted to try my hand at a more chibi-anime style character for this jam. Here I drew the character concept on top of some of my level sprites to get a feel for how they play together.

I am aiming at somewhat high-fidelity sprites for the environment. This is going to present as a challenge during the jam period - due to the high time cost. But, the artwork is my strongest skillset... I plan to only create the tile variations I require for any given area, rather than creating an exhaustive set of tiles for * any and all * situations.


I have already started plugging the environment sprites into Godot, and started putting together the basics of my project. I only hope I have the time and energy to keep up with my goals for this jam.
